Understanding Our Declaration of Independence
Written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, the Declaration of Independence outlined the truths that the new American government held to be self-evident: “that all (men) are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The preservation of these truths remains at the heart of our national government today, more than two hundred years later.
