The Shapes A Poem Can Take: Different Types of Poetry
Poetry can take many different forms – from the rolling and easy-to-memorize ballad, to the compact, suggestive haiku, to the artful rambling of free verse. This program introduces such poetic forms as the lyric, sonnet, haiku, blank verse, ballad, and limerick. It uses examples from famous poetry to shoe how a change in the form of a poem will very likely change its meaning as well. The DVD includes a printable teacher guide featuring reproducible handouts, activities, exercises, vocabulary words, and other related materials. 15 minutes. Recommended for grades 5-12.
