William Bradford (March 19, 1590-May 9, 1657) was born in Yorkshire, England and was a committed member of the Separatist church. He and his fist wife, Dorothy May, sailed to America with the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower to escape religious persecution. Soon after arriving in the new world, the Pilgrims discovered that the price for religious freedom was hunger, sickness and death. As a peacemaker, William Bradford befriended the Native Americans, who taught the struggling Pilgrims how to survive. By the end of the first year, William Bradford became Governor of the new land. After their first critical harvest, he set aside time for the Pilgrims and their new Native American friends to feast together and to express thanks to God.

William Bradford is credited with establishing the first Thanksgiving celebration and is dubbed the "Father of Thanksgiving"

Teach leadership, sharing, and gratitude with this 30-minute animated educational DVD about William Bradford, "The Father of Thanksgiving." Excellent for developing homeschool curriculum and a great teaching resource to use during the Thanksgiving holidays.

Pocahontas (c. 1595-March 21, 1617) was the daughter of Native American Chief Powhatan. At a young age, Pocahontas befriended the settlers at Jamestown, and her raw courage helped to save them from starvation and exposure. Captain John Smith, one of the leading colonists at Jamestown, was a dear friend to Pocahontas. When he was captured by a group of Powhatan, Pocahontas rushed to his aid and saved his life. Her brave intervention was demonstrated on more than one occasion and saved the settlers' lives, bringing peace between two very different people groups.

Pocahontas ended up marrying Englishman John Rolfe and gave birth to one child, Thomas Rolfe.
