Pocahontas (c. 1595-March 21, 1617) was the daughter of Native American Chief Powhatan.Ata young age, Pocahontas befriended the settlers at Jamestown, and herraw courage helped to save them from starvation and exposure. When Pocahontas grows into a young woman, she is captured by members of the Jamestown colony and is held as ransom for supplies from her father.åÊ Enter John Rolfe, who is placed as her guard.åÊ As summer turns to fall and fall turns to winter, John and Pocahontas fall in love.åÊ He teaches her to read the books Captain John Smith had given her before he left.
