Goliath was a giant Philistine warrior. Standing over 9 feet tall, he towered over all of his enemies! Because of his great size and strength, he became one of the most important soldiers in the Philistine army. In fact, the Philistines would win battles without even having to draw their swords because their enemies would take one look at Goliath and run away!
That\'s exactly what the Philistines thought was going to happen when they faced King Saul\'s army. The Philistines stood on one mountain, while King Saul\'s army stood on another mountain across the way. The battlefield was in a valley between the two armies. Goliath stood alone in the middle of the battlefield, teasing and taunting the King\'s army.
Goliath kept this up for forty days until a young shepherd boy named David finally showed up on the scene. None of King Saul\'s soldiers dared to fight the giant because they were too scared. But David was not afraid. He trusted God to help him fight Goliath and win! (1 Samuel 17)
